World number two seed Roger Federer is through to the 2nd round of the 2008 US Open after an impressive display against Argentina's Maximo Gonzalez in just 82 minutes, winning 6-3 6-0 6-3.
Federer looked to be on form against the 118th ranked player in the world and powered 39 winners and 15 aces past a demoralised opponent. Federer was happy with his performance and will be looking to win his first Grand Slam title of the year in New York after relinquishing both the Australian and Wimbledon titles earlier this year.
"This take a little bit of pressure off me because I know a little more about where my game is at," said the Swiss star, who recently lost his number one ranking to Rafal Nadal. "I have to play more aggressively on hardcourt."
Roger is looking to build on the momentum of securing a gold medal at the Olympics in Beijing earlier this month.
"The Olympic gold in doubles gave me a great lift," Federer said. "It really inspired me and I hope to use that to do well here.
"It is a special memory. It was unbelievable to listen to the national anthem and share that moment with my friend."
